MAbeeTT, thank you for reporting this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .
If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number> Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. ** Summary changed: - System crash with serial port use + Kernel Oops - BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 00000000000000e0; System crash with serial port use ** Summary changed: - Kernel Oops - BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 00000000000000e0; System crash with serial port use + Kernel Oops - BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 00000000000000e0; RIP: 0010:[<ffffffff813a101d>] [<ffffffff813a101d>] uart_dtr_rts+0x9d/0x180 ** Description changed: + System crash with serial port use + * Install cu * exec "cu -l ttyS0 -s 115200" - * CTRL-C + * CTRL-C * Then exec "tail -f /dev/ttyS0" /// from kern.log ///// May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.842086] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 00000000000000e0 May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.842153] IP: [<ffffffff813a101d>] uart_dtr_rts+0x9d/0x180 - May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.842199] PGD 1709d6067 PUD 173b0c067 PMD 0 - May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.842238] Oops: 0000 [#1] SMP + May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.842199] PGD 1709d6067 PUD 173b0c067 PMD 0 + May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.842238] Oops: 0000 [#1] SMP May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.842265] last sysfs file: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cache/index2/shared_cpu_map - May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.842319] CPU 0 + May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.842319] CPU 0 May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.842333] Modules linked in: binfmt_misc vboxnetadp vboxnetflt vboxdrv nls_iso8859_1 nls_cp437 vfat fat snd_cmipci gameport snd_pcm snd_page_alloc snd_opl3_lib snd_hwdep snd_mpu401_uart snd_seq_midi snd_rawmidi snd_seq_midi_event radeon usblp snd_seq ppdev snd_timer snd_seq_device snd edac_core ttm drm_kms_helper soundcore drm k8temp edac_mce_amd sp5100_tco i2c_algo_bit asus_atk0110 i2c_piix4 parport_pc shpchp lp parport usbhid hid firewire_ohci firewire_core ahci floppy crc_itu_t 3c59x r8169 libahci pata_atiixp - May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.843777] + May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.843777] May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.844800] Pid: 1812, comm: tail Not tainted 2.6.38-8-generic #42-Ubuntu System manufacturer System Product Name/M2A-VM HDMI May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.846994] RIP: 0010:[<ffffffff813a101d>] [<ffffffff813a101d>] uart_dtr_rts+0x9d/0x180 May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.848167] RSP: 0018:ffff8801709cbae8 EFLAGS: 00010286 May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.849333] RAX: ffffffff81a670a0 RBX: ffff880191a58000 RCX: 0000000000000000 May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.850513] RDX: 00000000ffffffff RSI: 0000000000000282 RDI: 0000000000000282 May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.851689] RBP: ffff8801709cbb08 R08: ffff8801709ca000 R09: 0000000000000000 May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.852064] R10: 0000000000000000 R11: 0000000000000001 R12: ffffffff81ceef60 May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.852064] R13: 0000000000000000 R14: ffff880191a58020 R15: ffff8801917a5b80 May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.852064] FS: 00007f36d6379720(0000) GS:ffff8800d7c00000(0000) knlGS:0000000000000000 May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.852064] CS: 0010 DS: 0000 ES: 0000 CR0: 000000008005003b May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.852064] CR2: 00000000000000e0 CR3: 0000000173a66000 CR4: 00000000000006f0 May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.852064] DR0: 0000000000000000 DR1: 0000000000000000 DR2: 0000000000000000 May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.852064] DR3: 0000000000000000 DR6: 00000000ffff0ff0 DR7: 0000000000000400 May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.852064] Process tail (pid: 1812, threadinfo ffff8801709ca000, task ffff8801917a5b80) May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.852064] Stack: May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.852064] ffff8801709cbb08 ffff880191a58000 ffff880186ebd180 ffff880192321800 May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.852064] ffff8801709cbbb8 ffffffff8138a7b1 ffff880191a58010 00000000709cbb38 May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.852064] 0000000000000286 ffffffff81ceef60 ffff880191a58000 0000000000000000 May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.852064] Call Trace: May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.852064] [<ffffffff8138a7b1>] tty_port_block_til_ready+0x1b1/0x320 May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.852064] [<ffffffff81087f30>] ? autoremove_wake_function+0x0/0x40 May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.852064] [<ffffffff8139e210>] uart_open+0x160/0x1f0 May 4 14:44:43 sobriux kernel: [ 73.852064] [<ffffffff81382bed>] tty_open+0x19d/0x4c0 May 4May 4 14:46:03 sobriux kernel: imklog 4.6.4, log source = /proc/kmsg started.
