I verified that this is still an issue in Ubuntu Software Center
5.1.14.1, Ubuntu Precise Beta 2.

** Description changed:

  software-center-gtk3 trunk r2119, Ubuntu Ocelot
+ Ubuntu Software Center 5.1.14.1, Ubuntu Precise Beta 2

  1. Launch USC.
  2. Enter some search text, or navigate to a category like "Accessories" that
has no subcategories.
  3. Select an item in the list.
  4. Either click Back, then click Forward; or choose "More Info", then click
Back.

What happens: No item in the list is selected.
What should happen: The item that was selected is still selected.

  <https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareCenter#navigation-back-forward>: "Each
item in the history should remember ... what software item was selected
(if any) ... These attributes should persist if you return to the screen
using Back/Forward navigation, but not if you navigate to the screen any
  other way."
