I don't know just why things went wrong here, but let me highlight the important part of DpkgTerminalLog.txt, below. There are many, many bug reports where the download of the flash plugin failed. This is not one of them. There's a problem with /etc/alternatives. Alternatives problems also appear in bug 975367, but with a different message, so they may not be dupes. That's all I have, thanks.
