Public bug reported: The fileserver component of OpenAFS 1.6.0 (and prereleases) is known to corrupt users' files under certain conditions, some of which are described in the upstream bug report https://rt.central.org/rt/Ticket/Display.html?id=130295
[Impact] Has been observed to cause loss of data. [Development fix] Version 1.6.0-3 of the Debian openafs package is entirely dedicated to fixing this. It cherrypicks two upstream patches, http://git.openafs.org/?p=openafs.git;a=commit;h=c73b66447cb84cf1f07775b9f93b745050e4972c http://git.openafs.org/?p=openafs.git;a=commit;h=4e05bc3b5cd50354bcade3c38c0ec97713b148c8 A successor version, 1.6.1~pre1, including these patches is currently in precise. [Stable fix] To be determined. Should consist of the above two patches and any prerequisites. [Test case] See the upstream bug report. [Regression Potential] I hope upstream can elaborate on this. The second patch just removes dead code. The first one disables an optimisation feature (see https://rt.central.org/rt/Ticket/Display.html?id=124397) introduced in the 1.6 series, so there probably is a performance impact for some users; however, avoiding loss of data should trump that. ** Affects: openafs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: oneiric -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/975868 Title: File corruption issue in OpenAFS 1.6.0 file server To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openafs/+bug/975868/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
