I have had a few reoccurrences of this problem most recently only a week
or two ago. (Lesson for me is to keep a note of when and what version
of Linux)
I am not sure what kernel version I was on when it last happened but I
am currently on Linux 3.0.0-17-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP Thu Mar 8 17:34:21
UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
The problem was intermittent (and relatively painless) but I would need
to be crash free for about a month before closing it.
I have tried to run 'apport-collect -p linux 783458' but cannot
as normal user running 'apport-collect -p linux 783458' I get...
"ERROR: connecting to Launchpad failed: [Errno 1] Operation not permitted:
'/home/peter/.launchpadlib'
You can reset the credentials by removing the file
"/home/peter/.cache/apport/launchpad.credentials"
Following the reset instruction 'rm
/home/peter/.cache/apport/launchpad.credentials' I get...
rm: cannot remove `/home/peter/.cache/apport/launchpad.credentials': No
such file or directory
using 'sudo apport-collect -p linux 783458' I get a Chromium Info window
saying...
"Chromium cannot be run as root. Please start Chromium as a normal user.
To run as root, you must specify an
alternate --user-data-dir for storage of profile information."

Peter
