Anyone else out there brave enough to try running KDE on Ubuntu, just to see whether Kate has been fixed?
I suggest using a stable editor instead: JEdit. It has all of Kate's features and then some. Kate was the only thing which kept me using KDE for the last 2 years. Now there's a stable network-transparent programmer's editor with syntax highlighting, code completion, etc. Best of all, it doesn't have Gnome or KDE dependencies, so you can run it with a stable desktop like XFCE, LXDE, or OpenBox.
