After the initial crash, it can reliable be reproduced when rm 
_usr_sbin_aptd.0.crash file from /var/crash.
After removal of .crash file either run update-manager in a terminal or via 
dash.
Click the check-button results in apport report.
syslog says:
AptDaemon: CRITICAL: Another daemon is already running
