It sounds like you have a proxy in place that prevents the package from
downloading the files from sourceforge. The current version of
msttcorefonts uses the apt proxy settings directly, so if apt can reach
the Internet, msttcorefonts should also be able to.
There is also the option to download the files manually, then run 'sudo
dpkg-reconfigure ttf-mscorefonts-installer' to point the package at the
local directory containing the files.
Other than that, there's not much that can be done here. The fonts are
not redistributable, that's why we have a downloader package in the
first place. You have to be able to download the files to use this
package.
