Thanks for your answer. I just created an account to clearify this issue
as my "personal it-support" isn't around. :)

I rechecked everything. The issue doesn't have anything to do with video
playing. It always happens after ten minutes without user-interaction.
Log-out and login again doesn't help, but login into another account
helps.

And the version was a typo. I'm using an up-to-date Xubuntu 11.10 -
oneiric.

Using the command you suggested, power manager is still running. And I
found that the power manager is set to put the display to sleep after
ten minutes. So I'll try to turn this off and see if everything works.
But even if - the sound problem because of putting the display to sleep
is strange.
