Too bad to hear about the other issues you've run into.

In Ubuntu we do not officially support the old i8xx chipsets (we dropped
support a few releases back).  With this particular bug I had hoped it
would be something simple we could slip in, but evidently no such luck.
Upstream has been giving more attention to 8xx issues than in the past,
so was also hoping they could at least shed some light for us, but seems
to be unclear to them too.  Coupled with the troubles you're having
doing the testing, this bug is not looking like it's on a profitable
path.

Given all that, I'm going to close out the bug as wontfix, per our
support policies.  Instead, I would recommend that you work with Intel
upstream directly on graphics issues you're encountering.
