>network-manager seems way more trouble than it's worth.

I can confirm the general assumption. It works normally - most of the
time. But its unstable like hell. Nothing to work with constantly and no
chance to find a hint for an error. I tried many hours to generate
useful bugreports. But I can't reproduce the errors i have regularly...

1. It looses the connection after 10 minutes oder after 3 hours.
Sometimes it works for a day.

2. Sometimes, when it looses connection, I can reconnect without
problems. only a little annoying.

3. Sometimes, I can't reconnect at all. Sometimes I can't even use
ifconfig or /etc/init.d/networking restart. I have to reboot to get a
working network (unbelievable but true)

4. Sometimes, if it does not only loose the connection, it even looses
its memory. The good thing is, I know my WEP-Key by hard now.

I used knetworkmanager on kubuntu feisty with a lg t1 express dual
notebook, which has an intel ipw3945 wireless card. Now I went back to
wlasisstant and a self-written script to configure wired devices
