Well after rebooting, the situation seems to be a lot better. With the
previous kernel (or perhaps before the updates were applied) I would
have experienced several lock ups by now, but right now it has not
failed even once. Of course this is after running for less than half an
hour, so I guess more extensive testing is need before I can safely say
"it's fixed".

Unfortunately I need to get to bed now, but I will boot the (latest
version of) the 3.2 kernel tomorrow and see if the lock ups return.
