I've tracked it down to Chromium's port of the Firefox extension called Perspectives. It causes the issues. As per a product review on google's extension site:
"2. Linux (OSX too?) users beware - this extension only works with the Sun java 6 plugin (other java plugins like iced-tea/openJDK will hang) 3. Linux users beware Oracle(Sun) java has been pulled by Oracle from Ubuntu repositories, so go follow a guide online on how to install the latest sun java plugin and disable/or uninstall any other java on your system" https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/lnppfgdnjafeikakadfopejdpglpiahn/reviews Deactivating it solved the issue. Chromium still takes up resources when lots of tab are open not that's another issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/972811 Title: top reports over 100% cpu usage for java To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/icedtea-web/+bug/972811/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
