Recheck it with 3.0.0-12-generic #20-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 7 14:50:42 UTC 2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux. Same behavior, problem persist. I'm sure that in time of 3.0 kernel usage those keys has been worked, so IMHO this problem is not kernel-related. AFAIK it can be somehow related to ACPI (those keys are ACPI buttons?).
