Hi,
since it's not certain that somebody actually wants to use HDMI audio just 
because they plugged an HDMI cable in, we decided to do the cautious thing, at 
least for 12.04. There were also some problems with ensuring a consistent user 
experience. See the email thread starting at

for more information.
