What is the status of this? I've tried asking on the GNOME mailing list and got zero reaction. Dimming the display on battery is a fundamental power management feature and needs to be added back in with a patch if the GNOME team doesn't deem this worth while. I offer my own time to develop this patch if necessary, let's just get it done.
