I tried checking for updates on this system, and received the following
error message:
An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package
information.
Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include
the following error message:
'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with
MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_precise-
backports_universe_binary-amd64_Packages, E:The package lists or status
file could not be parsed or opened.'
I did try doing the updates in the terminal, and that failed also.
System: Ubuntu precise (development branch) Release: 12.04
I tried cehcking the update manager in the software center, and it is
crashing also.
I could not check it in the termianl either. I get the message:
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList
/var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_precise-backports_universe_binary-amd64_Packages
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
