Since maverick is a non-LTS release, the supported upgrade path is to upgrade to natty only, not to directly upgrade to oneiric or precise. As such, the current date does not impact your upgrade options because natty is still fully supported. It does impact your new install options, and I have subscribed the release manager to the bug.
