Public bug reported:

The existence of unity --reset is crucial, and the lack of it in unity-
2d is a serious shortcoming.

Moreover, because unity-2d is silently substituted for unity if the
screen doesn't support 3d acceleration, we have users who do not even
know they are running unity-2d. (This is a tribute to the quality of the
unity-2d work, by the way, so congrats!)

That means that probably unity --reset should do it. But the bug here is
that unity-2d cannot be sanely recovered if one's configuration becomes
corrupted.

** Affects: unity-2d (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
