Tabor, if you are using the "fglrx" AMD graphics driver then the flicker
is most likely caused by the fglrx driver's default settings (which are
broken). To fix this:

1. Open Catalyst Control Center.
2. Go to 3D > More Settings.
3. Set "Wait for vertical refresh" to "On, unless application specifies".

If that's not enough to fix the flicker then please also try running "ccsm" 
(from package: compizconfig-settings-manager), and in
the Workarounds section, enable "Force full screen redraw (buffer swap) on 
repaint".
