I'm happy to report that the bug is fixed in 12.04 beta 2.
The touchpad now is identified as "ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad" instead of "PS/2
Logitech Wheel Mouse" as before and the synaptics xorg module is loaded
correctly.
But I'm not sure if it will fix the issue for the other laptop models
that had problems.
