This has been a problem I have noticed for some period of time. Just as the handoff is made into plymouth there is a bright flash it is really startling when it happens. I'd call it a searing flash. It has grown worse since there was an updated plymouth as part of an update possibly a week or two ago.
I only thought today to search for this bug and a fix for it , as a we had a visitor here today, who happened to be watching the screen as ubuntu 12.04 was booting and she actually let out a scream when this flash happened. This has been a long on going problem reported in many way and many times over the years . I hope one of you very smart graphics driver persons come up with a solution. The problem happens no matter what graphics card in use . I have had it on ATI AMD, Nvidia, and Intel 2000, and now Intel 3000. This also seems to be a problem in ubuntu as opposed to even kubuntu. I do not see this ( at least in resent memory ) in other distributions.
