same here with nvidia-glx 1:1.0.9631+2.6.22.1-6.8 and kernel 2.6.22-6.13. It
was working fine up to around a week ago.
Activating compiz using "Desktop Effects" locks X up, keyboard included.
I have to login from another box and hard kill compiz.real. Then I recover.
If instead I go to a console to do the same thing, X crashes when I want to
come back to it.

Here is compiz started from a terminal:

$ compiz --replace
GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is available with direct rendering.

(that shadow_radius gconf key returns 9 and themes/Human/ubuntu.png is
at the right place and looks perfectly fine)

I'll give that new compiz-bcop + compcomm-plugins-main a try.
