@Mark, thanks. Not sure if it will help against crashing, but the
digital profile (for USB) shouldn't be there.

You should be able to remove it by editing 
/usr/share/alsa/cards/USB-Audio.conf, and find the 
"Logitech USB Speaker" 999

Right after that line, add another line saying:
"Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700" 999

(Including both the quotes and the 999)

You can reboot to make this change take effect.
