Yes it is minidlna, this works with vlc and 5 various webradios, the sharp tv and my lg blueray.
Inserted the ppa for now, ii banshee 2.4.0-2ubuntu1 This version has a greyed out upnp section in the left panel, i can only fold and unfold the tree. There is no network action when banshee is started and displays the upnp server.
