I thought I would add my experience since I finally got around to trying
out the suggestions mentioned in this post.

All I had to do was use the xorg-edgers ppa and everything else was automatic.
Thanks to all who have helped resolve this bug (if you see this). I am
thrilled to finally have real Unity with a current driver.
I haven't had any of the segfaults mentioned above, but I have only been
running it for a few hours.
