I don't know what to do with the Linus kernel info above.  
I did install the latest mainline kernel from the deb package
3.4.0-999-generic #201204250500 SMP Wed Apr 25 09:08:44 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 
GNU/Linux
which is doing the usual loop of connect, getting connected, and "my guess" 
kernel disconnects for more detail see the attached syslog, portion shown here. 
 Something about an "Association request to the driver failed"
