Just tried to debug. I set gfxpayload to text, and removed 'quiet' and
'splash'. The result was the exact same.

The last line displayed before the graphics corruption happened was
something with 'fbcon'. Loads a bit too fast to tell.


Also tried to boot the install CD with noapic, nolapic, acpi=off, and 
permutations of those settings. None of them resulted in a successful boot.
