i found out that it is related to the fact that i have guarddog installed and i have setup a very restrictive firewall. After executing "iptables -F ; iptables -P INPUT ACCEPT" , gaim started correctly (without segmentation fault) but without beeing able to connect to the IM Networks. Of course that worked after running "iptables -P OUTPUT ACCEPT". So i think the crash is realated to the rules created by guarddog.
