So my "kernal" line looks something like:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20-15-generic
root=UUID=28907a80-1829-4d20-b09d-36f9bdb2aad0 ro quiet splash noapic nolapic
acpi=off pci=noacpi
