Public bug reported:

Ok, it all worked fine when I first installed Ubuntu12.04. Indeed it
works if I use the USB installer and boot from it. Dies a horrible
death if I try to use the alsa-hda-dkms stuff. Actually removes all
audio devices completely.

I needed to do this to get back the card after trying the alsa_hda_dkms

sudo apt-get purge alsa-hds-kms

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa; sudo apt-get
update;sudo apt-get dist-upgrade; sudo apt-get install linux-sound-base
alsa-base alsa-utils gdm ubuntu-desktop  linux-image-`uname -r`
libasound2; sudo apt-get -y --reinstall install linux-sound-base alsa-
base alsa-utils gdm ubuntu-desktop  linux-image-`uname -r` libasound2;
killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.pulse*; sudo usermod -aG `cat /etc/group |
grep -e '^pulse:' -e '^audio:' -e '^pulse-access:' -e '^pulse-rt:' -e
'^video:' | awk -F: '{print $1}' | tr '\n' ',' | sed 's:,$::g'` `whoami`

Ok, so response to aplay -l is

But sound settings on desktop finds now hardware.

Please note, it lost audio all by itself.

Regards

Walter
