Public bug reported:
Testing various packages in Edgy, I have now found a rather odd problem.
I am yet to determine exactly what triggers this behaviour, but it
appears to be gnome related.
The menus (Applications, Places.. etc) will not pop up, as well as menus
in applications like gnome term. They will produce a tool tip if
hovered, and when clicked a non-populated (empty) tooltip may appear.
Right click context menus on the desktop, as well as gnome-terminal (and
presumably other applications) fail to pop up.
Left clicking on gnome term allows the window to take focus, but not the
text gadget itself, so one cannot type anything. Firefox will take
focus, and will pop up its menus, but does not respond to keyboard at
all, including shortcuts. It is the fact that firefox menus are
functional that leads me to beleive it is a gnome problem and not an
Xorg problem. I will set it as "dont know" as I am not 100% certain
which component is causing this.
Alt-tabbing is still active however, and seems to sort the problem out,
at least until it next occurs.
This has now happened 3 or 4 times today. I have not yet found a solid
way to reproduce it, as I am generally focusing on other activities at
the time.
Other important information:
This is running in a vmware player, and I am switching between a browser window
on the host OS, and the guest OS. However, such switching does not appear to
be directly or indirectly related.
