Martin, thank you for replying to that bug report. I must confess that I am not a user of Ubuntu. I am a Gentoo zealot. I just happened upon this bug report in Launch Pad, since it was very high on the SEO for my problem. My comments in to this bug report were only to point out the fatal flaw in the philosophy that bad is ok. Just because the high cpu load is caused by reindexing, even once, doesn't mean the problem should be ignored as a trivial matter. I still feel that reindexing code should be sensitive to the impact on the user's desktop experience and limit the rate at which it reindexes.
