The avahi message is a feature.  If it didn't do this, then people who
needed to actually resolve those addresses ending in .local wouldn't be
able to.  As the documentation you quoted states, the hotel's DNS
configuration is what is wrong (they should have called their local
domain something other than .local), but good luck convincing them of
that.

If it's just that the message bugs you, and you don't use avahi for
anything, then in /etc/default/avahi-daemon, set AVAHI_DAEMON_START=0.
If you actually use avahi at home, for instance, then I think if you
look through the other avahi bug reports, you'll find reference to a
patch that adds a configuration option to /etc/default/avahi-daemon
which disables the message.

In any case, other than the annoying message, it should have no effect
on your ability to connect.
