Definitely an installation problem. I tried unsuccessfully to install Xubuntu 12.04, Lubuntu 12.04, Lubuntu 11.10. My workaround : (re)load Xubuntu 11.10, upgrade to Xubuntu 12.04 (OK), load lxde (Lubuntu functionality, OK).
