Thank you for taking your time to report this bug to make Ubuntu better.
This is a problem in Ubuntu 12.04 and earlier releases. However, the
entire indicator menus is going through a refresh for Ubuntu 12.10. You
can read more at http://design.canonical.com/2012/04/status-menus/. That
said, this is a work in progress.
I am still marking this confirmed since it is a valid bug you pointed
out.
