I have almost the same issue, but not in a Live Session. I upgraded to 12.04 LTS via 11.10 and 12.04 Beta2. Now I always receive a "Duplicate sources.list entry" error whenever I apt-get update. (I update daily.) I'm on an amd64 machine and don't know where the i386_Packages file in /var/lib/apt/lists came from. (There is no corresponding entry in sources.list) ---msg--- W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/extras.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_precise_main_binary-amd64_Packages) W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main i386 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/extras.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_precise_main_binary-i386_Packages) W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems ---end--- I tried deleting the i386_Packages file from /var/lib/apt/lists and it solved the issue until the next reboot, when it magically reappeared in
