I didn't check the latest current driver (295.49) but 302.07beta works fine for
me.
I use Ubuntu 11.04 gnome2.32+compiz. 3D effects and everything else works well.
Unity works, too.
My steps:
1. apt-get update
2. Unload all gfx drivers from Hardware Drivers window (proprietary drivers
window).
3. apt-get remove nvidia-current nvidia-common
4. chmod +x NVIDIA-Linux-x86-302.07.run
5. CTRL+ALT+F2
6. gdm stop
(or lightdm or kdm)
7. ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-302.07.run
8. gdm start
(or lightdm or kdm)
9. Done

I will do the same with 295.49 if this drivers will works for others.
