Ok here is what i have done so far:
Please note I am still a linux noob (1 month experience) so please say if i am
not explaining something right.
1-
clicked on the link kindly provided By Joseph Salisbury -it downloaded a .deb
file. (36 mb download)
2-installer completed successfully and the new kernel is installed-asked for a
reboot. Restarting to see whether it actually works...
3-First things first:
3.4 kernel(downloaded the pae version, i386) has made my computer suddenly much
faster-before 15 second boot and then a couple of seconds lag to display
launcher etc etc---now a 6 second boot to working desktop-whatever changed it
has changed for the better. THANK YOU UBUNTU devs :-)
now for the hdd- it never happened(yet) if it is a simple mount and copy
stuff-always with programs like deja backup.
i plug in hdd (mypassport wd with crappy self mounting software).
immediately home folder pops up with the drive and the program mounting as an
iso--no probs so far.
Now i run deja backup-- and it doesnt unmount it! Ejecting the drive isnt a
problem either now -it doesnt spin for a minute allegedly writing files when it
has been idling for the past 20 min.
Thank you very much for your help. I am truly impressed that a free
operating system has such great (free) support! Thank you to everyone
who does this .
