Same here, happens quite often and is randomly helped by the nvidia card falling from the bus. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/882710 So much for a LTS release, it makes my workstation to unstable to work with and upgrading to the newest 302 driver seem to involve installing a new x server which will break compatibilty in the future!
