Ммм, I found the problem. I deleted the
/usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/veusz/ which remained from the
installation from the sources. The reason I installed it from source is that I
use 12.04 from december. At that time veusz also didn't work so I tried to
install it from the source. Seems at some point the related ubuntu packages
were updated and problem gone, but not for me.
(btw, The problem was located using strace).
I regret about wasting your time.
