I experience similar (bad) behaviour with Libreoffice on Ubuntu 12.04. I'm editing a 1,2 MB doc-file and typing/editing and scrolling is really sluggish. It takes a long time for characters to appear. My system is: Genuine Intel® CPU T1600 @ 1.66GHz × 2, with 1GB memory. Before installing 12.04, I had 10.10, which was much more responsive.
