Whatever you wish. I don't really understand the question. You are in
Ubuntu 12.04 if I am correct. 2.6 is not available for that version, so
of course you can install that, but it is not supported. Why not go for
the version in 12.04?

Latest version in Synaptic, unless you have reasons to do otherwise.
