Experiencing the same problem with Ubuntu 12.04 using a live usb (on hp
tm 2 1090 eg). Turning on Bluetooth does solve the problem, though this
isn't really satisfactory. I can't provide any more information than
this though since I can't install Ubuntu right away - need the laptop
for university and I don't feel confident enough to do this right now.

If I could provide any more information using the live usb though, I
will do this. Any explanations on how to and what to provide would be
helpful, since I am not really that experienced with Ubuntu (or Linux at
all).
