Since that comment doesn't actually address the original request, here's an explanation of why the 60-second countdown is a bad idea. <https://lists.launchpad.net/unity-design/msg08368.html> In brief, the countdown might be followed by other confirmation alerts, so you can't rely on it to shut down without further input. The biggest step towards fixing that would be to implement session saving, but no-one is organized enough to do that, and it wouldn't entirely solve this particular problem anyway.
