"Quitting" an IM application is a way of doing two things at the same
time: (1) closing its window and (2) going into Offline mode. The model
for Empathy in Ubuntu is that these things are independent. Just as you
can go offline without closing the window, you can also close the window
without going offline. So, it's not a bug that you stay online when
closing the window.
