** Description changed:

Having removed Empathy from my machine, I am still presented with the
status options in the messaging menu - these are all greyed out, and
  therefore useless.

They should be removed in the same way that Ubuntu one, Thunderbird, etc
  are.

-
- --------------------------------------------
- Desired Solution:
-
- - Only options relevant to active user accounts should be presented to
- the user. This rule is applied to all the indicators with the new
- indicator IA, see
-
https://docs.google.com/a/canonical.com/drawings/d/1ONMyEpUfJRfgIZhL9nsWWDA8V_zhkeRvTL0KLo8l1ec/edit
- and http://design.canonical.com/the-toolkit/system-indicators/ for more
- details
+ <https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MessagingMenu#Chat_status_section>: "The chat
+ status section should appear only when any applications are registered
+ to use it."
