I have something similar happening. DVDs refuse to play in totem and crash it with the following error
[ 298.867630] totem[1725]: segfault at c ip 07c40c32 sp b51feca0 error 4 in libdvdnav.so.4.1.3[7c31000+15000] I have to play them in VLC with menus switched off. Keeping menus on also crashes VLC.
