Thats strange, i just tested it, i copied a file to usr/share/backgrounds/ and chmod 777(it should be chmod 644 really anyway), it works fine, maybe you still had the other copy set as your background?(i had to browse to the file, as it's not in the xml index of pictures)
i think the reason unity-greeter doesn't pick up my picture normally is that my home folder is set to only allow me to view files(which is still a bug in unity-greeter) if i have my desktop picture on another user account with default permissions, then it works fine ________________________________ From: h-bomb <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, 12 May 2012, 3:12 Subject: [Bug 993480] Re: Default wallpaper at login screen I have even tried copying the picture to /usr/share/backgrounds/ and setting the permissions to 777 and that still doesn't even work. It amazes me that these half baked features get rolled out. Also, it appears to me that only the default pictures that are included in ubuntu are able to be shown for the user on the login screen. (If you have the wallpaper set to the auto change then those wont even show). -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993480 Title: Default wallpaper at login screen Status in One Hundred Paper Cuts: New Status in “unity-greeter” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: This happens on both my laptop (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, AMD64, Unity 2D, nvidia-current) and my desktop (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, AMD64, Unity, nvidia-current). I think it just used to work in Beta 2. -- On both computers, my wallpaper is set to `/home/robin/Ubuntu One/Wallpapers/Mockingjay.jpg`, and I already tried `chmod 777`.
