For nearly two weeks, this bug isn't reviewed by any moderators. I think neither will this be fixed soon by Ubuntu people, nor will anybody submit a patch. For Chinese users, I highly recommend Lunar Applet 1.5 as a replacement. It provides a clock of 12-hour type, a lunar calender and a similar look to Gnome panel clock. However, it lacks Evolution support.
In order to install Lunar Applet 1.5, you have to add an extra source (via System -> Administration -> Software Sources): deb http://ubuntu.cn99.com/ubuntu-cn/ feisty main restricted universe multiverse After that, use Synaptic to search and install "lunar-applet", then add it to the panel (and remove the Gnome panel clock).
